Vile has appeared at a couple of Dinosaur Jr.’s recent anniversary shows (including last night’s finale) at the Bowery Ballroom, playing Neil Young’s “Cortez The Killer” and My Bloody Valentine’s “Thorn” with My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields.
Last night, Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis returned the favor by appearing with Vile on Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, which is both too political and not political enough. Mascis doesn’t appear to play an instrument, however—he just sings backing vocals—though Vile does take a very Mascis-y solo. Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks fame also guests.
