The LA Times has a story today on the ADL's Armenian genocide flip-flop, which reports there was "a telephone powwow Wednesday among major American Jewish organizations to discuss whether to forge a united position on the issue." One effect of this dustup, I suspect, is that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been getting a fresh earful about the congressional Armenian genocide resolution, whose fate--given that it now has more than 218 House cosponsors--is currently in her hands. That could cut either way, however. We're already seeing signs of how seriously Turkey takes this issue: Via reader KM, the Jerusalem Post reports that Turkey's ambassador to Israel has cut short a vacation and will return to Tel Aviv to register his objections to the ADL's new statement, while Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan will likely call Ehud Olmert about the matter. This seems rather a lot of fuss over one statement issued by what is, after all, an American organization. But that's Turkey for you. Meanwhile, and probably relatedly, I'm told the Turkish government recently severed ties with the Washington firms that were handling its U.S. public relations, including the well-known Glover Park Group.
