In an article in TNR.com last week, the great feminist Muslim rebel Irshad Manji quotes a former Islamic militant from Manchester as saying that most of the money he had raised for the cause came not from Saudi zillionaires but from middle class dentists in England. Well, it turns out that the allusion to the dentists was not at all frivolous. For, as the New York Times reported at least twice in the last days, many of the saboteurs and terrorists in the failed London car bombings and the attack at the Glasgow airport were doctors and other medical personnel. OK, so they weren't dentists but they sure were doctors. This should finally call a halt to the cliches about terrorists in the West being among the society's rejected and dejected. An article in TNR two years ago by Professor Alan Krueger of Princteon (hopefully we will have a working link by Monday) demonstrated that the assumption about terrorists stemming from the disinherited was simply false,and that it was false almost everywhere. It is a convenient cliche, and it is employed by those who to put the blame for Muslim terror on the advanced societies which are its victims and not on the doctrines which victimize both other Muslims and westerners. The Times reports that some members of this medical cell of Terror International met in Cambridge, England where they lived and worked. I was reminded of the fact that the great Soviet spy ring, made up of Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt (later keeper of The Queen's Pictures), Kim Philby (once a contributor to TNR) and Michael Strait (once editor and owner of this magazine), also met and cemented ties in Cambridge and its most exclusive club, The Apostles. The Muslim traitors in Britain were not as privileged as these Soviet moles. But they are not of the downtrodden, for whom they also do not act.
