As I wrote a few days ago, I am not yet done with George Soros who has restarted the argument we had more than a fortnight ago in this space. He has written a piece in The New York Review of Books which has been reprinted in a shortened version by the Financial Times. I take umbrage by what he says about the honor of The New Republic. It is his honor that is at stake ... and his smarts. Israel-Palestine is a matter about which he knows next to nothing, and it shows. But, as Sholem Aleichem once wrote, "If you're really rich you really think you know." Sorry, Mr. Soros, you have been repelled by your favorite candidate for president, Barack Obama, to whom you have presumably given your statutory limit of $2,300. He had reason that through 527s you would make available millions more. I hope you do give this money to him. But don't take that as a sign that he agrees with you about Israel at all. Obama's decorous but firm rejection of your silly opinions about Israel was a brave and sensible act. It's all detailed in Eli Lake's article in the Sun. I wrote yesterday a little posting on Nicholas Kristof's also ignorant piece on Israel. But it got gobbled up in my server. I hope that my computer doctor will extract it, and then I'll pass it on to you.
