Various appropriately laudatory tributes to the recently deceased Milton Friedman are appearing around the Web. You might read some of them. Many pay tribute to Capitalism and Freedom, although for my money (er, as it were) the best of Friedman is Friedman and Schwartz, A Monetary History of the United States, 1867-1960. I also make annual use of the charming and clear essays in Money Mischief when I lecture on the monetary politics of the late nineteenth century. There's something a bit Jefferson/Adams about Friedman and Galbraith passing on in the same year. A productive quarrel is at long last over. Their peace is our loss.
