Last night on ABC News, George Will downplayed the significance of the election results and said they were simply the product of predictable historical trends. Lame duck presidents do poorly in midterm elections, the House was ripe for a change after twelve years, all business as usual. Since Will has raised the issue of historical precedent, it's worth noting that he heralded the 1994 Republican takeover of the House as "Reagan's Third Victory" in his November 10, 1994 column for The Washington Post. This couldn't possibly be the case of a conservative pundit following his party's talking points, could it? Are there other such examples out there?
