Alan Wolfe and Sandy Levinson among this "faculty" (as Marty Peretz has fondly taken to calling us) have been eloquent about the terrible legislation passed today by the Senate. So have other commentators elsewhere. I can add little now, except to urge friends of liberty to take note of those who supported this legislation, as shown by the roll call vote. Among the Democrats supporting it were Menendez (who may now watch many campaign donations dry up), Stabenow (ditto), Rockefeller (!), Lautenberg (!!),and as well as a few that were to be expected such as Salazar, the Nelsons, several Southerners, and--Sandy Levinson's vain hopes notwithstanding--Joe Lieberman, who crawls deeper into his own spider hole of denial every day. Arlen Specter said the other day that the bill "would take our civilized society back some 900 years." He voted for it anyway.
