As Adnan Syed’s post-conviction hearing resumes today in Baltimore, the family of the victim in his case, his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee, released a statement last night explaining how painful the new legal proceedings have been for them. “The events of this past week have reopened wounds few can imagine,” they wrote.
Lee’s family has rarely spoken about the case previously. They declined to be interviewed by Sarah Koenig for the Serial podcast, and last year, Lee’s brother wrote a Reddit post asking users to respect the family’s privacy. “To you listeners, its another murder mystery, crime drama, another episode of CSI,” he wrote. “But sorry I won’t be answering any questions because ... TO ME ITS REAL LIFE.”
