Pusha T calls out Fox News, Don Lemon in “Sunshine.”

There was finally a reason to watch The Daily Show with Trevor Noah last night: Pusha T debuted a new song and spoke to Noah about his upcoming album, King Push—Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude, which drops Friday. “Sunshine,” like its predecessor “Crutches, Crosses, Caskets,” is vintage Pusha: bleak and vicious and unrelentingly clever. It’s also something of a departure—“Sunshine” is more political than anything he’s done before, taking on police brutality, cable news, mass incarceration, and racial justice. It wouldn’t sound out of place on Clipse’s Hell Hath No Fury or 2013’s My Name is My Name, two of the best albums of the past 15 years, but it’s very much of this moment. Speaking to Noah about the album, and why he’s drawn to dark themes, Pusha said, “I’m talking about everything that’s going on in society—the good, the bad, and the ugly.” It’s all there in “Sunshine.”
