A falling drone almost leveled championship skier Marcel Hirscher.

YouTube

Hirscher was competing at the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Italy when the drone crashed to the earth, missing Hirscher by what looks like only a few feet. According to The Verge, it was “likely a camera drone set up by media or the event organizers, and, on some level, equipment malfunction is a given at almost any big event.” As an NBA fan, I’m well aware of the dangers of placing cameras too close to the action, but had never considered the danger of them falling from the sky and beaning the world’s greatest athletes with incredible force (just look at that drone break apart when it hits the snow!) Despite being nearly concussed and/or decapitated, Hirscher won his third consecutive giant slalom race
