Is Carly Fiorina’s dig at Hillary Clinton the most sexist comment yet in the Republican primary?

The GOP candidate, who loves contrasting herself Clinton, stepped up her attacks in Thursday’s undercard debate on Fox Business when she said, “Unlike another woman in this race, I actually love spending time with my husband.”

Fiorina’s remark is the latest example of a familiar tactic of painting Clinton as unwomanly, and therefore somehow unnatural and unfit to lead. It’s a trap, though. Because when Clinton tries to appear more feminine—like in an Lifetime interview where, according to Politico, she talked about “date night with Bill Clinton” and “girls night out with her friends”—she’s discounted as a unserious politician.
