Metro reporter Andy Newman has started a biweekly column on pets in New York, chronicling “the annoyances, the joys, the sorrows and the laughs particular to cohabiting with domesticated animals, by choice or by proximity.” The first column introduces us to Rose, a rat rescued from the West Side Highway this summer.

[Rose] and two others her age were adopted by an animal trainer named Lydia DesRoche. Ms. DesRoche called them the Golden Girls and named them Rose, Blanche and Dorothy.
I won’t spoil the ending (though it does involve the Great White Way), but I’m expecting an animated musical about Rose to hit screens by summer 2019.
