A poem

Gaps in blue flowers along a ridge
                   dim the difference between delphinium

and little apertures to the sea.
I almost wrote ocean. One day, a man

considered desertion, the next
he deserted. In return for his release,

five others cross the ocean. I almost
wrote sea. When planes pass in the sky

or meet in disaster, these are details
               you can’t tell from kissing.
