In response to a question at CNN’s Democratic town hall about fixing the nation’s broken racial relations, Clinton said, “Our experiences may not equip us to understand what a lot of our African American fellow citizens go through every day.” The fight against systemic racism, she added, is “important for people, particularly white people.”
While Clinton’s official racial justice platform focuses mainly on systems-level changes to mass incarceration, voting rights, and police reform, she has been emphasizing the individual responsibilities of white Americans in the last few weeks. We’ll see if she updates her song playlist, too.
