She is on record as being a fan. “Ooh, I love Prince!” she told The Washington Post’s Chris Richards back in 2011. And Prince would certainly have gotten a kick out of being sartorially evoked as the First Lady hobnobs with some actual royalty. “[W]e’d like to think there was at least some tiny part of FLOTUS that chose the hue as an homage to Prince,” wrote The Huffington Post, even while acknowledging that purple is the color of royalty. This is also much better than the other conspiracy theory being batted around the British press, that President Obama hates Britain because colonialism.
