Speaking Of Ferrets

at this hearing before Mayor Giuliani--at no time did any citizen speak against ferrets

I know I'm supposed to read the second coming of the legendary Rudy Giuliani ferret episode as a sign that he's fascistic, small-minded, vindictive jerk, but I just can't. I loved that story when it broke in the 1990s and I still love it. It gets at the heart of what Giuliani did for New York. The city needed someone to yell at it and tell it to shape up, and he did it with relish. For those not on the receiving end of his bile, there was something tremedously appealing about Giuliani's refusal to coddle New York's large population of weirdos.
