When Shuler cast his vote for Pelosi, at least two Republican members of Congress--although neither were from North Carolina--applauded. But it wasn't a gesture of support. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said he clapped for Shuler because he was evasive during the campaign, to the point where King said that Shuler led constituents to believe that he might not support Pelosi for speaker.
