Hillary Clinton was in New Hampshire on Saturday, and The Boston Globe reported that she drew crowds and cheers. What else did the headline writers think she would draw? These were not open meetings. You had to get tickets in advance. Does the Clinton campaign not trust a meeting just open to the public? Apparently not. The article reports that in Concord Hillary said she wanted a "conversation." Surely, she knows how to conduct a conversation. But, instead, Hillary had a "pep rally." There will be no spontaneity in this campaign. The Globe account also reports that she spoke about "the brutal conflict in Darfur." I am sorry that they didn't report what she actually said. I'd bet anything that she didn't call for military intervention. Which means that, whatever she said, was just bullshit. See our editorial in the current issue. If you're not for intervention it means you are willing to have more black people killed by Sudanese Arabs. Sorry, there is no truth other than that. None. Then Hillary pandered: "I know some of you have thought, maybe even said, 'It's kind of hard to think about electing a woman president. My response is that we will never know until we try." Actually, it's easier to think about a woman president in New Hampshire because that state has already had a woman governor. It's harder to think about electing an African-American president. After all, we have only elected two black governors and two black senators in our entire history. So, historically, electing, let's say, Barack Obama, would be overcoming a more meaningful barrier in American life. After all, there is no general gender bias against women as there is racial bias against blacks and, to a lesser extent, against Hispanics. Then, there were the exchanges with her audiences about the war. She still wants it both ways.
