I am off to Israel today and will be back next weekend. My trip coincides with President Bush's visit in which another American president will try to burnish his record by pretending that the Palestinians are ready and able to come to a settlement with Israel that doesn't fulfill their fantasies. Maybe Bush will be able to resist the temptation. Bill Clinton certainly didn't, and he pushed Israel into the bloody encounter called the Second Intifada.
