I nearly forgot: John McCain is capable of giving a classy, elegant, even stirring (and natural, sincere-sounding) speech when he's not awkwardly trying to push Republican-base hot buttons.

That sounded to me like Mark Salter's prose--minus the revisions of Steve Schmidt, Charlie Black and Rick Davis.

And much of it drew boos from the crowd.
