Why It's No Fun Being A Governor These Days

The Boston Globe story on Deval Patrick's efforts to close Massachusetts's budget deficit by cutting funding for the state's zoos contains a sentence no politician wants his office to have to issue:

And a second Patrick aide emphatically ruled out the killing of any animals.

I'm just relieved there weren't any zoo crises in Alaska while Palin was governor. There's no telling what might have happened.
