The “Smack That” artist is attending the COP21 summit in Paris, sitting on a panel on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs), which are measures developing countries can implement to grow in an environmentally sustainable way. It’s not the first time Akon has dabbled in environmental advocacy. In 2014, he started Akon Lighting Africa, an initiative designed to bring solar power to 600 million Africans. Akon was born in Missouri, but his parents are Senegalese and he lived in Senegal as a child.
