Alas, the White House has put the kibosh on suggestions that the president, a former professor of constitutional law, should nominate himself to replace Antonin Scalia. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that scenario is “highly unlikely.”
It’s not unheard of for a president to move to the Supreme Court. William Howard Taft joined the court in 1921, nine years after finishing his presidential term.
As for Obama being appointed after leaving the White House, Earnest said, “He envisions something different for himself once he leaves the presidency.”
