The box-office success of Todd Haynes’s 1950s drama introduced audiences to a new form of seduction: The I’ll-have-what-she’s-having creamed spinach with two poached eggs and a dry martini. According to the NYPL’s What’s on the Menu? project, if Carol and Therese were enjoying a Sunday brunch at the Park Lane restaurant on Park Avenue, they could have also enjoyed such seductive dishes as “Smoked Ham and Beef Tongue” or “Country Sausage Cake, Sauce Piquante” with a V-8 or clam juice.
