Tara Isabella Burton has written on religion, culture, and place for National Geographic, the BBC, Conde Nast Traveller, and The Guardian, among other publications. She is currently a Clarendon Scholar at Trinity College, Oxford, working on a doctorate in theology and fin de siècle French literature.
