Gregory Smithers is professor of history at Virginia Commonwealth University and a British Academy Global Professor with the Treatied Spaces research cluster at the University of Hull. In addition to “Cherokee Riverkeepers,” he’s the author of the forthcoming book Reclaiming Two-Spirits: Sexuality, Spiritual Renewal & Sovereignty in Native America.
