Chris Hughes is the Publisher and Executive Chairman of the New Republic. Since his acquisition of the company in 2012, Chris has brought transformative change to the institution by expanding its digital imprint and investing deeply in the high-quality journalism the New Republic has long been known for. Today the New Republic’s audience is larger, more diverse, and more engaged in print, online, and in person, than at any point before his acquisition. Prior to the New Republic, Chris worked as a co-founder of Facebook and the Director of Online Organizing for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. He continues to invest in start-ups and serves on the boards of GiveDirectly and the Knight Foundation. He graduated from Harvard University magna cum laude with a concentration in History and Literature.
