Samuel G. Freedman is a professor of journalism at Columbia University and the author of 10 books, including Into the Bright Sunshine: Young Hubert Humphrey and the Fight for Civil Rights. He has spent large portions of the last decade living in Minneapolis, where he is currently a visiting senior fellow at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
